Consumer Consultation Blog 02 - 21 November/2010
We now have 4 Consumer Consultants ready to talk about their own challenges and remarkable stories. One notable inquiry recently read:
my boyfriend is having all kinds
of issues - swollen ear has lead to tmj soreness - cant open
his mouth up, or chew in the back, his entire left side of
face feels numb, or hot or the pain is so intense he throws
up. hes been to hospital (2 of them) drs, they all say
different things, and hes on 2 types of anitbiotics, but
nothing is helping. Hes forgetting things and thinking we
are haivng this big conversation, when we are not, he seems
to be having most of it in his head- then coming up with
random sentences about it. He has vertigo and hes been
drooling as well. Please help us!
It's enquiries like this that help us to help others - As a collective force, we suggested that the lady who emailed us, present at another ER and DO NOT leave until she is happy with the outcome....it could have been stroke, etc. In the end, we received this update:
Thanks, Jodi- we went to 2 ERs, he spent 5 days in hospital- they sent him home with no pain meds, then we went to another hospital- spent all day there and got sent home with the diagnosis bad ear infection. The ENT specialist was an ___, and yesterday he went to my acupuncturist and today is feeliing much better. So hopefully he will continue to come good! Thanks.

Welcome this first blog of the website: consumerconsultation.com - a valuable service created by myself (Jodie G. from jodiesjourney.com). My vision in creating this community is to benefit the massive world-wide community of patients seeking to help and inspire each other in their own individual battles and challenges. I have had jodiesjourney.com up and running for about 3 years now and I often get patients contacting me, looking for advice, information or relational encouragement, regarding their medical journey.
I often find, as a patient myself, the most information - assistance - understanding & hope comes from patients who have walked the walk and talked the talk. The same people I sit next to in the chemo chairs in out-patients, can also assist me in my journey with their own experiences. We all see things differently....but, when you strive to live through the battle - the real truths of life come alive, compassion, empathy and love for other patients, flows from me to others.
So, here we are - most of us have no formal medical training, but after years of walking the halls of an oncology/Haemotology ward and day unit, I have seen it all. Yes, the faces of everyone in the waiting room, indicates the obvious ('I did not bank on this happening to me') - however, as patients - our consumer experiences are valuable and like gold to others beginning the journey or in the midst of one.
My hope for this site is that consumers/patients and people from all walks of life will discover a connection with each other and find the information, courage and confidence to make some positive steps in their own decisions and medical journeys. I hope that this will one day become a popular portal for people to connect and find the support they need as they walk the hard road of medical choices and decisions.
I am seeking feedback and ideas on how to create a better service and one day make parts of this into a small business. Please feel free to contact me on jodie@consumerconsultation.com to have your say.
Blessings 2 U, Jodie G.
